The Lawlessness of the Internet Will Be
its downfall, because sooner or later a combo of world govts. will decide to rein it in. Hopefully that will take a long time, but we'd best be designing the New Internet in the meantime so that govt. doesn't go to far and create a de facto Big Brother. Face it, our grandkids might never know a tenth the freedoms we enjoy now while grumbling about the lawlessness of the Internet, so enjoy it while it lasts.

The thing that I don't like the most is the destruction of intellectual property rights via easy piracy. The con game of forcing PC buyers to purchase their software suite when buying the PC made Microsoft a monopoly, while aftermarket software makers went bust. Instead, every author of intellectual property should enjoy automatic crediting of his emoney account every time somebody "purchases" his work. Unfortunately, the only way to do that is to give the govt. a huge amount of power over the Internet, after which emoney won't be much compensation.

The policing of pedophiles would be nice, but face it, the only real solution is a universal ID probably via sensing of people's DNA or something worse, and is it really worth it?
